Workshop on

"Modeling and Representation in Computational Semantics"

Golconda Fort in Hyderabad

The workshop on 'Modeling and Representation in Computational Semantics' will focus on issues pertaining to techniques for automatic construction of semantic representations for natural language expressions, representations that lend themselves to deductive reasoning.

Computational semantics is a relatively new area of research that combines insights from many disciplines, including formal logic, computational linguistics, psychology, automated reasoning, artificial intelligence, linguistics, philosophy and natural language technology. Natural Language Processing has now reached a stage where the exploration and development of semantic models for representing and interpreting natural language utterances has become a crucial task. Organizing a workshop on this theme would be appropriate in view of the emerging interest of NLP research communities in India and outside towards semantic processing.

CALL FOR PAPERS

A one-day pre-conference workshop on 'Modeling and Representation in Computational Semantics' will be held at Hyderabad, India on January 7, 2007. Submissions of high-quality work are invited from authors from around the world. The topics of interest include -- but are not restricted to the following:

  • Knowledge representation
  • Modeling contexts for semantic interpretation
  • Building ontologies
  • Anaphora resolution
  • Semantic annotation of corpora for machine learning
  • Neat and scruffy approaches in semantics
  • Supplementing general purpose grammars with ontologies and other repositories of semantic specification, to produce rich semantic representations of natural language text (reflecting,e.g., domain knowledge and structure amenable to logical reasoning).
All reviewing will be carried out double blind by the Program Committee.

    Submission Guidelines

Submission must include an abstract, four to five keywords, the email address of the corresponding author. Submission will be electronic and they must be in Adobe PDF format.

As reviewing will be blind, the paper should not include the authors' names and affiliations. Furthermore, self-references that reveal the author's identity should be avoided.
