About

The theme for IASNLP-2024 is Natural Language Generation.
The 12th Advanced Summer School on NLP (IASNLP-2024) is scheduled to be held at IIIT Hyderabad from 21st June – 6th July, 2024. This advanced school like its previous iterations aims to introduce participants to advanced topics and current research in the context of Indian language NLP.

With Multilinguality one of the defining features of the Indian republic with 22 officially recognised languages and a recent thrust on making more content available in Indian languages, this year's theme hopes to familiarise participants with the challenges of developing and working through various challenging aspects of Natural Language Generation. The school also along with highlighting issues around data and deployment of systems to end users.

The summer school is meant to be project oriented along with a lecture track where noted researchers from the field will provide an overview and introduction to a number of topics in line with the theme. Right at the start of the school, participants will choose a project (from a list to be floated) and will be mentored during the two week period to come up with substantial work which will then be presented at an open symposium on the concluding day of the summer school.

Format of the Summer School

The Summer School revolves around a novel project. Usually, each day lectures occupy half of the day, where participants are introduced to the necessary concepts and/or tools necessary for the project. Post that, participants are supposed to work on the project while interacting with mentors.

Pre Summer School Session

There will be a 2-day preschool session from 21st June to 22nd June 2024, which will introduce necessary tools for people from different backgrounds and disciplines.

Targeted Participants

IASNLP-2024 will be helpful to students and young faculty who want to get into NLP. They would be able to work on research projects during the summer school and can continue even after it is over.
